Touch Pro2 - Features with a Great Form Factor

iphone | Sunday May 31 2009 6:48 pm | Comments (0)

tp2 Mark Briggeman from MobilityMinded has put together his thoughts on the new HTC Touch Pro2.  This is a device that combines great features of a variety of HTC devices into a very nice form factor. Mark said the HTC Touch Pro2 is responsive and the tilt mechanism is great and of course, the large 3.6″ WVGA screen, an excellent camera and a 1500 mAh battery make it fun to use.

There has been some talk about the new version of TouchFLO 3D and Mark says he really likes it a lot!  Overall, this device is a combination of great hardware with stable, fast and easy to use software. One might even say that HTC has brought a killer-device to the market. He expects people will love this new HTC addition simply because the hardware and software are so well balanced and there are a ton of very cool features.

Netbooks are Generic and Live Search makes Gibberish

iphone | Sunday May 31 2009 6:48 pm | Comments (0)

netbook Liliputing is reporting that the French site Blogeee is reporting that they have seen reports (yeah, blogging is a dirty business) that the trademark battle between Psion and everybody else who has ever touched a semiconductor is over. It appears that Psion has accepted the fact that Netbook has become a generic term and is dropping their claim, but whether that is due to settlement or because Psion’s legal team realized that the court costs for the first round alone would be more then the company is still worth is anybody’s guess.

I admit I was expecting Psion to eventually get paid or get lost from the start and assuming this report is true, I am surprised it took this long. I for one would love to read the transcripts of the negotiation’s between Psion and Intel and their posse.

In an effort to get a little more confirmation for this story, which Liliputing is properly classing as a rumor, I ran the Blogeee post through Microsoft Live Search’s translator functionality, built into IE8…and this is what I got.

Intel and Psion have to agree on the problem that opposed until around to the word "netbook". Psion voluntarily withdraw all its rights and the term deposits and consents to do more oppose to that third parties use in the future the netbook Word. No official confirmation from Psion or Intel in their respective sites for the moment, no idea nor of the negotiations around this sudden friendship between setmarks sent soft words press spaces there are few. For us users netbooks, we finally see manufacturers and merchants stop turning around the pot with their "mini-mobile", their sub-laptops or other "mini-notebook."

Netbook win!

ZUT ALORS!!! “Sent soft words press spaces there are few”??????

OK, so whether Netbooks are generic or not, we do learn one thing for certain in this story..Live Search Translator is merde.

Ilium Software Anniversary Bash Next Week – App Discounts & More Fun

Ilium

Our good friends over at Ilium Software – publishers of a couple of notable iPhone apps, eWallet and Apples2Oranges and many award-winning apps for iPhone and other mobile platforms – are going to be celebrating their 12th anniversary this coming week.  Having learned a little bit about the mobile software arena over the last few years, I reckon those years may well feel like dog years if you’re in the thick of it at the software publishing end of things – so boy must those Ilium folks be feeling old! :)

Despite that though, they’re looking to let us all share in their celebrations.  They’re planning a range of contests over at their blog site – no specifics on prizes yet, but they’re generally quite generous so it’s worth taking a look at the site – HERE – during this coming week.

Ilium will also be running sales on all their mobile software next week, including a discount (not sure how much as yet) on eWallet in the App Store (and hopefully on Apples2Oranges as well) – go HERE for all the details next week on these discounts …

What Do You Think of The Pre’s Ringtone?

PreCentral

I’ve been taking a look at quite a bit of the Palm Pre coverage this week, leading up to its launch next weekend – demo videos, user guide excerpts and so on.  I also spotted a post the other day (at PreCentral.net) saying that it’s default ringtone has leaked out.  You can check it out HERE.

I don’t like it much, but then again I’m not overly fond of any default ringtones and always want to use one of my own anyway.

What do you all think?  Will this ringtone be the one factor that makes the Pre a true iPhone killer?  :)

New iPhone Apps: Stereo MCs Show Your Light

iphone | Sunday May 31 2009 6:47 pm | Comments (0)

StereoMCs

This app grabbed my attention out of pure nostalgia. It’s called Stereo MCs Show Your Light – and here is a piece of its App Store description:

iTunes-4

The nostalgia element for me is that I have many fond memories of listening to tracks like ‘Connected’ and ‘Step It Up’ and the whole ‘Connected’ album from Stereo MCs back in London days.  Just hearing the name Stereo MCs makes me think of great friends, long nights, and long, lazy mornings in Ealing Common.

I’d never heard the Show Your Light track that this app is based on before today – but I don’t mind it at all after a first listen.  This app’s not for me, but it’s great to see and hear the Stereo MCs again.  You can find the app HERE, and it’s free.

First Impressions of iPhone Handwriting Recognition – It Sucks

Yikes

In my pre-iPhone days I was always a huge fan of handwriting recognition on mobile devices.  It was my preferred way to take notes at client sites and always my fastest method of inputting text.

So I’ve been looking forward to trying it out on the iPhone for a long time.  This week I finally felt like I had the right combination of stylus plus an application with built-in handwriting recognition to give it a go.  The app I’ve been using is WritePad Notes, and the stylus is a Ten One Design T1-AF25-103 Pogo Stylus for iPhone 3G

New Apps & Hats Episode Out – Shazam, Ocarina & Huge Cookies

AppsHatsNewEpisode

I recently discovered the splendid Apps & Hats site, where Christine and Hattie offer up bite-sized iPhone app video reviews with generous doses of quirkiness, humor, charm, hats, and sometimes dogs.

They’ve got a brand new episode up now, where they take a look at two superb music apps – one free and one paid as is always the format – Shazam (a huge favorite of mine) and Ocarina.

Although there is major shortage of hats and dalmations in this latest episode, there are some ginormous cookies to admire.  Check it out HERE …

Recommended: More on Avoiding App Store Rejection at Mobile Orchard

MobileOrchard

A few weeks back I recommended an article over at the excellent Mobile Orchard site, where a successful iPhone developer offered advice on how to avoid getting rejected in the App Store reviews process.  Apparently that article has drawn a large number of comments from other iPhone devs – which have now formed the basis of a Part 2 post with lots more good tips for avoiding rejection by Apple.
